Portland-based photographer Robbie McClaran, like me, has been around a while. But believe me, there’s no dust gathering nor cobwebs forming in the way he sees. He’s got this wry sense to his picture making that can crack you up or make you scratch your head or make you say, hmmm, I never thought of that, or, I’d sure like to go there and meet those folks.
It was a blast going through hundreds of his pictures to tweak his web presence and build a book to show clients. The range of what he’s done is amazing. He’s most known for his portraiture, such as the photo of Andre Agassi above. And he’s good at it.
But then there’s a body of work about southern blues; a whole bunch of photos made on motorcycle road trips; his book “Angry White Men”; and a body of personal work that reaches deep and wide.
It’s another day in paradise looking at his work and figuring out how best to present his photographs.
Robbie McClaran is represented by Redux Pictures.
